Art and Design: Studio (BA)

Program Description

In the Art and Design: Studio major, students cultivate a diverse range of artistic skills while exploring the intersection of material, concept, and creative expression. Our curriculum in Studio has a threefold focus. First, students develop technical proficiency in various media, including drawing, painting, sculpture, photography, and video, building a strong foundation in artistic craftsmanship. Second, students engage in critical inquiry, examining historical and contemporary artistic movements while considering cultural, philosophical, and theological perspectives that shape creative practice. Third, students prepare for professional pathways by building a cohesive portfolio, developing a personal artistic voice, and showcasing their work in the SPAC Gallery, a professional exhibition space on campus. Rooted in a faith-informed exploration of creativity, this major encourages students to consider how art can inspire, challenge, and reflect the human experience. Career opportunities for Studio graduates include roles in fine arts, public art, gallery and museum work, arts education, set design, multimedia production, and more.
